EARLY PHONICS READERS™SERIES
Phonics & decodable readers
fun & easy first storybooks for K-2
What makes these phonics/decodable books unique?
|
1. Only short vowels and sight wordsBooks for emerging readers use words with both long and short vowels with lots of sight words, which can be confusing for a new reader.
With these books, children do not need to be confused by the “Silent E” at the end of the word. They do not need to know long vowel sounds. These books use words with only short vowel sounds, along with a few basic sight words, and thus provide emerging readers the opportunity to read a book that is decodable and can easily be “sounded out”, leading to reading success. 2. Colored backgroundsEach page has a different background color that helps reduce the glare created by black text upon a stark white page.
This greatly helps children with visual processing difficulties like Scotopic Sensitivity (Irlen Syndrome), who otherwise cannot even stand to look at a white page of text because of different types of visual distortions that may occur. Instead, children find these books soothing to look at, making reading an enjoyable experience. The sample pages on the right show what the colored background looks like. |
3. Sight words introduced at the beginningThese books are a great way to practice sight word recognition.
The sight words used are introduced before the story begins, and once the children are familiar with these words, they are able to read the story more smoothly, and thus enjoy the reading experience. Success in reading builds self-esteem and motivates the child to want to read more. |
